renfence-admin's blog

Changes to the Business

For the last 5 years Renaissance Fence has been serving the WMA and Historical Fencing community of Australia and New Zealand as a supplier of quality fencing equipment. Over that time we've been running both a retail side, as well as our research and teaching side.

Fixing the spam problem

If you've been checking these pages recently you may have noticed I had the anonymous user commenting switched off. Well, I'd been getting a huge amount of spam to administer.

There's a reason I like Drupal, and that's because it's a community that experiences the same problems. Enter Captcha, the Drupal solution. I've just installed the module, and I'll be trialling the results. Comments are still being administered for anonymous users, as I want to see what the results are like first. Hopefully this will solve the spam problem.

Getting the layout right!

I'm happy with the layout now, so it's time to document what I've done.

Firstly, the Header region.

If it's not obvious, I'm using the default bluemarine theme. Under Home » Administer » Site building » Themes » bluemarine I've turned OFF the logo, site name and slogan options. The Mission statement is turned on, as this displays the welcome information on the home page. You enter that information through the Home » Administer » Site Administration » Site Information page. I've also got the Primary and Secondary links turned on.

Welcome to the new website

Well we've moved to the new server, and have got the site running on a new CMS.

For those interested, the platform is Drupal 6.10, and I'm quite happy with it.

There's some new features, such as blogs and books, which will be available to authorised users.
